As a licensed therapist based in Washington, DC, I provide compassionate, culturally responsive therapy tailored to adults across the lifespan. My specializations include grief and loss, South Asian and immigrant mental health, relationships, family conflict, cultural identity, and life transitions.

Through my own experience as a second-generation Indian-American, I have a personal understanding of the complexities that arise when our individual needs, identities, relationships, and family or cultural expectations don’t always align. Many of the clients I work with are navigating a significant loss or transition, struggling in an important relationship, experiencing family conflict, or feeling caught between who they are and who other’s expect them to be.

Therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, understand the patterns that have shaped you, and develop a deeper relationship with yourself and with others. I provide a warm, thoughtful, and nonjudgmental space where difficult emotions and experiences can be explored safely. Together, we will work towards helping you build greater self-awareness, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of who you are and how you want to live your life.

Whether you are looking for in-person therapy in DC or the convenience of online therapy in New York, Pennsylvania, or Virginia, I am here to support you through the process.

Contact me today to schedule your initial consultation. I look forward to hearing from you and starting our work together.

Tara Devineni, MSW, LCSW

Growing up as a second generation Indian-American in a small town and spending most of my young adult life in big cities- the concept of “home” was fleeting. I learned over time “home” needed to be a place I could return to within myself, where I felt safe, understood, and seen. This is what I strive to help my clients develop in themselves and I am deeply honored to be granted access to go on this journey with them.

“After seeing Tara for a couple months, I felt like I was given a second chance at life. She is very professional and empathetic, and was a joy to work with. I felt completely safe to be vulnerable with her; she was always incredibly patient and non-judgemental. She also had a great memory, referring to people in my life with their names, which made me feel cared for and listened to. I found Tara through Psychology Today, after doing a lot of research for therapists sensitive to cultural issues, and therapists that had experience with relationship issues.”
