Tara Devineni, MSW, LCSW 

Growing up as a second generation Indian-American in a small town and spending most of my young adult life in big cities- the concept of “home” was fleeting. Over time, I learned that “home” needed to be a place I could return to within myself - a place where I felt safe, understood, and seen. This is what I strive to help my clients develop in themselves.

I have been working in the field of social work for more than 20 years and hold a Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University. My clinical experience includes hospital, community mental health, and nonprofit settings in Washington, DC, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Grief and loss is a core focus of my practice- including grief tied to immigration, estrangement from culture or family, and boundary setting. My own experiences with grief and loss, as well as my work with clients across the lifespan who have lost loved ones, are caregivers, or live with chronic or terminal illness has deepened my understanding and skills in supporting people through their own unique experiences of grief.

My approach to therapy is guided by my clinical training in Psychodynamic, Relational, and Existential Psychotherapy from The Washington School of Psychiatry as well as intensive training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy which I believe all lead to long term change. 

I am deeply honored to be invited into my clients’ lives and help them develop a deeper understanding of themselves as they create a future that feels more authentically their own.
